Verse 1
High in the palms where the warm winds sing,
Lived a curious monkey with a heart that would spring.
He swung on the branches from dawn until night,
Exploring the island with joy and delight.
One morning he heard through the tourist crowd’s song,
A woman was crying, her spirit all wrong.
She had lost her wedding ring on the honeymoon shore,
And her tears fell heavy, she could laugh no more.
Chorus
So the monkey said, “I will climb, I will swing,
I will search this island for your wedding ring.
Through the vines, through the sand, over river and stream,
I will bring you back your golden dream.”
Verse 2
He searched in the jungle where the parrots play,
He looked by the waterfalls misting their spray.
He dug through the sea-grass by fisherman’s cove,
And climbed up the palm trees where the trade winds rove.
He asked the iguana and the bright green frog,
He checked every tidepool and driftwood log.
At last by the shoreline where the shells do cling,
In a pocket of coral lay the shining ring.
Chorus
So the monkey said, “I have climbed, I have swung,
I have searched the island until the day was done.
Through the vines, through the sand, over river and stream,
Now I bring you back your golden dream.”
Verse 3
The woman she gasped when the monkey appeared,
Holding the ring she thought had disappeared.
She laughed and she cried as her heart took flight,
For the love of her marriage was shining so bright.
With baskets of bananas she thanked him with cheer,
Enough golden fruit to last half a year.
And the monkey just smiled as the steel drums played,
For kindness and courage had saved the day.
Final Chorus (joyful, soaring)
And the monkey said, “I will climb, I will swing,
I will search the island for your wedding ring.
Through the vines, through the sand, over river and stream,
I will bring you back your golden dream.”
Outro (chant, playful)
“Bananas for love, bananas for life,
The monkey brought joy to the honeymoon wife.
Swing low, swing high, let the island sing,
Bless the monkey who found the ring.”
